Selling a broken Genesis G70
The G70's complaint count falls from 63 on the 2019 to 6 on the 2021, then jumps to 32 on the 2022, the year the facelift reached the US. Exterior lighting is the top complaint on that 2022, with 9. Across every year, owners have filed 143 complaints with NHTSA as of October 10, 2026.

Before and after the facelift
Wikipedia lists the G70 as a compact executive sedan built in Ulsan since September 2017 on the M2 platform, related to the Kia Stinger. Rear- and all-wheel drive were both offered. The EPA lists model years 2019 through 2027.
- 2019-2021: a 2.0-liter turbo four or a 3.3-liter turbo V6. In North America a 6-speed manual came only on the rear-drive 2.0; the rest used an 8-speed automatic.
- 2022 on: the facelift arrived as a 2022 model in the US, and the manual was dropped. Wikipedia says the 2.0 turbo was later replaced by a 2.5-liter turbo four and Brembo brakes became standard.
What owners report
2019-2021: brakes module, trunk latch and the starter
These three years hold 82 complaints. On the 2019, electrical (10), engine (8) and unknown or other (8) lead. Three complaints across the model report a fire, one each on the 2020, 2021 and 2022.
The early cars have the most recalls:
- 21V161 (2019-2021): the anti-lock brake module could short circuit, and until a dealer swaps it, the recall says to park outdoors and clear of buildings. All 552 vehicles in this campaign are G70s.
- 24V107 (2019): moisture in the starter solenoid can short it; same outdoor-parking advice. The 90,907 count includes the G80, G90 and the older Hyundai Genesis.
- 22V196 (2019): the trunk latch may be damaged, so the trunk can't be opened from inside. 63,461 vehicles across the campaign, which also covers 2020 Hyundai Sonata and Sonata Hybrid cars.
- 20V569 (2021, 2.0): a plastic burr may be left in the fuel pump's jet nozzle. 319 vehicles, all G70.
If braking is the issue, bad or seized brakes covers fix-or-sell.
Turbo oil and fuel pump recalls that span the facelift
Two recalls run across both looks. Under 24V191, the left turbocharger oil feed pipe on 2019-2022 G70s with the 3.3 turbo V6 can wear out and leak. Its count of 28,439 vehicles also takes in the G80 and G90. On 2019-2023 G70s, 24V528 deals with a fuel pump that can quit and take away drive power. The dealer reflashes the engine computer and swaps the pump if it needs one. Its 54,647 vehicles also include the Veloster N, Elantra N and Kona N.
2022 on: lighting and engine complaints
The 2022 has 32 complaints (exterior lighting 9, fuel and propulsion 5, engine 5) and the 2023 has 24 (exterior lighting 5, engine 4). Our recall data lists nothing for a 2024 or newer G70. Those cars are also the newest, so owners have filed little on them so far. For turbo trouble on any year, see failed turbo.
The G70 by model year
We took the G70 complaint totals from NHTSA on October 10, 2026. Recalls cover more than one year, so adding the recall figures won't give a total.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2019 | 63 | 6 | 0 | 5 | Electrical 10, engine 8, other 8 |

Is it worth fixing?
- Run the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup. A brake module, starter, turbo oil pipe or fuel pump recall still open on your car is a free dealer repair.
- If no recall applies, get a written quote. Set that figure next to the price a healthy G70 with matching year and mileage brings. Repairs cost more than it is worth shows how to weigh the two.
- On a manual car with a worn clutch, see worn-out clutch.
Selling a G70 as it sits
- Write down the VIN, miles, engine, transmission and what's wrong.
- Ask for an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Say whether it starts and rolls, and where it's parked. The truck comes to it, free anywhere in the US.
- Leave it whole: wheels, brakes, converter and all. If anything's already gone, tell us.
- Have the title and photo ID ready. After you sell covers plates and insurance.
Questions people ask
- Which G70 model years have the most complaints?
- The 2019, the first year, with 63 of 143 as of October 10, 2026. The 2022 is second with 32 and the 2023 third with 24. The 2024 through 2026 G70 share just 5, in part because those years have been driven for a shorter time.
- Does my G70 have the park-outside ABS recall?
- Recall 21V161 covers 2019-2021 G70s. Their ABS module could short circuit. Until the dealer fits a new one, keep the car outdoors and away from your house or garage. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
- Will you take a G70 with a manual transmission that doesn't run?
- Yes. Manual or automatic, running or not, we buy whole non-running and junk cars with free pickup anywhere in the US. Tell us if the clutch or gearbox is the problem when you call.
