Selling a broken or junk Genesis GV70

The first GV70 model year carries the most owner complaints. The 2022 GV70 accounts for 93 of the 248 owner complaints NHTSA had on record by October 10, 2026. The largest group on that year, 22 complaints, names the fuel and propulsion system, and the 2022 sits inside two separate fuel pump recalls.

One body, three powertrains

Wikipedia lists the GV70 as a compact luxury crossover in production since 2020, built on Hyundai's M3 platform at Ulsan Plant 2 in South Korea and at Hyundai's plant in Montgomery, Alabama for North America. With gas power, the GV70 uses a 2.5-liter turbo four or a 3.5-liter turbo V6, both with an 8-speed automatic. The Electrified GV70 has two motors, all-wheel drive and a 77.4 or 84 kWh lithium-ion battery. The EPA lists GV70 model years from 2022 through 2027.

Which version you have matters, because the recalls split along those lines.

What owners report, by model year group

2022-2023: fuel pumps and seat belts

The 2022 has 93 complaints, 8 of them reporting a crash. Fuel and propulsion (22) and power train (13) lead. Two recalls cover the fuel pump on these cars, and both say the pump may fail and cause a loss of drive power:

  • 23V630 (2022 GV70): dealers replace the pump. The campaign counts 19,272 vehicles, a number that also includes G80 and GV80 sedans and SUVs.
  • 24V282 (2022-2023 GV70): dealers inspect and replace the pump assembly. 31,440 vehicles across the GV70, GV80, G80 and G90.

The 2023 has 69 complaints, led by engine (11) and power train (11). Seat belts show up on both years: recall 21V796 replaces pretensioners on some 2022 GV70s (978 vehicles, a campaign that also takes in Hyundai Elantras and Venues), and 23V094 caps the pretensioners on 2022-2023 cars (65,517 vehicles across four Genesis models).

The Electrified GV70: its charging unit

The Electrified GV70 has its own pair of recalls on the Integrated Charging Control Unit. The first, 24V204 (2023-2024), was replaced by 24V868 (2023-2025). Under 24V868, dealers check the unit and its fuse, swap them if needed, and load new software. Its 145,642-vehicle count includes the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6, the GV60 and the Electrified G80, so it is not a GV70-only figure. If the car won't charge or won't power up, see electrical problems before you decide.

2024-2027: wiring, screens and a fuel pipe

Recall 24V205 is the one only the GV70 carries: on 2024 models, water may leak into the transmission control harness and short it, which can shift the car from Park to Neutral by itself. The campaign covers 15,645 vehicles, all 2024 GV70s. Until the fix is done, owners are told to turn off the ignition and set the emergency parking brake every time they park.

Later recalls cover the instrument panel display software (25V105 on 2023-2025, 26V019 on 2026; under 26V019, owners are told to switch off HD radio until the fix), curtain air bags possibly fitted wrong on some 2026 models (25V809, 258 vehicles across several Hyundai models), and 26V229, fuel that may leak where the fuel pipe meets the fuel rail on 2022-2026 GV70s (94,760 vehicles across four Genesis models).

The 2025 has 39 complaints (engine 8, electrical 7) and the 2026 has 29, with 12 naming the electrical system. Being newer, they have given owners fewer months to report anything.

GV70 complaints and recalls by year

GV70 numbers taken from NHTSA owner complaints on October 10, 2026. Most GV70 recalls reach two or more years, so adding up the recall figures gives you over 11.

Repair it or let it go?

  1. Start with the VIN. Enter it at NHTSA's recall lookup. A fuel pump, fuel pipe or charging unit covered by an open recall is a free dealer fix, and that can change everything.
  2. No recall covers it? Get the shop's number on paper, then check what a working GV70 of similar age and mileage goes for. Repairs cost more than it is worth walks through that comparison.
  3. Crash damage is its own question. See wrecked or totaled.

Selling the GV70 whole

  1. Write down your GV70's VIN, its mileage and any faults you already know of.
  2. Ask for an offer online or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Tell us if your GV70 is gas or Electrified, if it powers up and rolls, and where it sits: driveway, garage, street or shop lot.
  4. Don't pull the battery, wheels or trim first. Anything already missing? Mention it before pickup.
  5. At pickup you'll need the title and a photo ID. Our after you sell guide covers plates and insurance by state.

Questions people ask

Which GV70 model year has the most NHTSA complaints?
NHTSA listed 248 GV70 complaints as of October 10, 2026, and 93 were about the 2022 launch year. The 2023 came second at 69. Newer model years, such as the 2026 with 29, have had less time to collect complaints.
Is my GV70 in the recall for shifting out of Park?
Recall 24V205 covers 2024 GV70s. Water may leak into the transmission control harness and short it, which can shift the car from Park to Neutral on its own. Until a dealer has done the repair, owners are told to turn off the ignition and set the emergency parking brake after parking. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Will you buy a GV70 that won't start or won't charge?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, gas or Electrified, and pickup is free anywhere in the US. Mention which GV70 version you own, if it powers up, and where it's parked.
