Selling a dead Infiniti QX80 or QX56
Brakes are the thread through this SUV's NHTSA record. Of 674 owner complaints on the QX56 and QX80 as of October 10, 2026, service brakes is the component named most, 138 times. The early trucks carry most of it: on the 2006 QX56, 44 of its 79 complaints are filed under service brakes.

Three generations, two names
EPA lists this truck from 2004 to 2027. It was the QX56 until the 2014 model year, when it became the QX80.
| Generation | Model years | Built | Engine and transmission | Complaints |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| First (JA60) | 2004-2010 | Canton, Mississippi | 5.6-liter VK56DE V8, 5-speed automatic | 371 |
| Second (Z62) | 2011-2024 | Kanda, Japan; Saint Petersburg, Russia (2012-2014) | 5.6-liter VK56VD V8, 7-speed automatic | 285 |
| Third (Z63) | 2025 on | Kanda, Japan | 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 (450 hp), 9-speed automatic | 18 |
Wikipedia lists the first generation as related to the Nissan Titan, Pathfinder, Xterra and Frontier, and many of its recalls name Nissan trucks too. The second is related to the Y62 Nissan Patrol.
What owners reported, by generation
2004-2010: brakes, and recalls shared with the Titan and Armada
Service brakes lead every first-generation year with real volume. On the 2004, 32 complaints are filed under service brakes and 29 under service brakes, hydraulic. On the 2005 it's 22 and 9; on the 2008, 17 under service brakes.
Recall 10V072 is the one brake recall here: the brake pedal pivot pin on 2008-2010 trucks may not have been formed to specification. A dealer checks the QX80 and puts in a new pedal assembly when it calls for one. Its 179,383 vehicles include Titans, Armadas and Quests.
Other recalls on these years, each shared with Nissan trucks:
- 10V517 (2004-2006): the ECM relay inside the intelligent power distribution module. 747,480 vehicles, including Armadas, Titans, Frontiers, Pathfinders and Xterras.
- 10V074 (2005-2009): the fuel gauge may read about a quarter tank when the truck is nearly out. Dealers replace the fuel sender. 340,000 vehicles with Titans and Armadas.
- 08V284 (2005-2006): on QX56s with a Visteon A/C condenser fan motor, the motor may not be sealed properly. 180,664 vehicles.
- 10V208 (2010): the front lower control link. 41,649 vehicles across six Nissan and Infiniti models.
2011-2024: the engine years
The second generation moves the complaints from brakes to the engine. On the 2011 QX56, 36 of 78 complaints name the engine; the 2012 has 20 of 57, the 2013 has 15 of 32, and the 2014 QX80 has 6 of 21. On the 2011, 15 more are filed under fuel/propulsion system.
Fuel and air bag parts dominate the recalls:
- 14V683 (2012-2015): fuel pressure sensors that may not be torqued right; dealers re-torque them. 133,592 vehicles, including the Juke, M56 and Q70.
- 21V373 (2020-2021): the fuel pump impeller can swell and bind, and the pump can fail. 24,140 vehicles with V8 Armadas.
- 20V188 (2011-2012) and 14V668 (2013 QX56, 2014 QX80): driver air bag inflators. The second names only the QX56 and QX80, 1,848 vehicles; the first's 216,678 include NV vans, Titans and Armadas.
- 26V455 (2011-2027, 22-inch wheels): the axle weight rating on the certification label. Dealers install new labels. 168,149 vehicles with Armadas.
2025 on: a new engine, camera software
Wikipedia notes the 2025 QX80 earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick+. Its 18 complaints across 2025-2027 are few, and Z63 trucks have spent only a short stretch with owners so far. Three recalls fix rearview camera and infotainment software: 24V747 (5,176 QX80s with Around View Monitor), 24V748 (37,236 vehicles with Rogues) and 25V821 (64,085 vehicles with Muranos and Armadas).

Repair or sell?
Answer first: if the repair costs as much as a running truck of the same year is worth, sell it as it sits.
- Check recalls by VIN at NHTSA. On a first-generation truck, the fuel gauge and brake pedal recalls are worth asking a dealer about.
- Brakes dragging, pulsing or seized? Our bad brakes guide covers when they're worth fixing on an older vehicle.
- V8 running rough or not at all? See blown engine before you pay for a teardown.
How to sell a QX56 or QX80 whole
- Have ready the VIN, the mileage, two- or four-wheel drive, and the wheel size if you know it.
- Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Describe the spot. This is a long, heavy truck. Say whether it rolls, whether the parking brake is stuck, and whether the QX80 is on a driveway, in a parking lot or squeezed into a garage.
- Don't pull parts off the QX80. Its wheels, seats and catalytic converters stay in place. Tell us about anything already removed.
- Before the truck leaves, sign over the QX56 or QX80 title and show a photo ID. See after you sell for plates and insurance.

Questions people ask
- Which QX56 or QX80 year has the most NHTSA complaints?
- The 2004, the first model year, with 106 of 674 as of October 10, 2026. The 2005 (80), 2006 (79) and 2011 (78) are next. QX80s from 2025 on are still new, so their low counts are only a first look.
- My QX56 fuel gauge shows fuel but it ran out. Is that a recall?
- It can be. Recall 10V074 covers 2005-2009 QX56s whose gauge may show about a quarter tank when the truck is nearly empty. Dealers replace the fuel sender unit. The campaign's 340,000 vehicles include Titans and Armadas. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
- Is the 2011-2024 QX80 the same truck as the Nissan Patrol?
- Wikipedia lists the second generation as related to the Y62 Nissan Patrol, built in Kanda, Japan (and in Saint Petersburg, Russia, from 2012 to 2014), with a 5.6-liter V8 and a 7-speed automatic.
- Can you pick up a QX80 that won't move?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and pickup is free anywhere in the US. Tell us if the wheels turn and how much room there is around it.
