Engines and years
Wikipedia dates XE production from April 2015 to 2024 at Solihull, with US sales expected from 2016. It replaced the X-Type and shares the JLR D7a platform with the F-Pace and XF. Gas engines were a 2.0-liter Ford EcoBoost turbo four (until 2017), a 2.0-liter Ingenium turbo four, and a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 (until 2019). EPA lists US model years 2017-2021, including a diesel.
2017-2018: engine complaints and early recalls
The 2017 holds 20 of the XE's 37 complaints. Engine (6), air bags (4) and fuel or propulsion (2) lead, and owners reported 4 crashes, 2 fires and 5 injuries. Two recalls apply. Recall 17V286 replaced a fuel return hose that may leak on 2.0-liter diesels; only 7 cars were in it. Recall 21V248 covers XEs that got a replacement rear rail in service, which may be missing spot welds (3 vehicles).
The 2018 has 8 complaints, 2 each on seat belts and electrical. It shares 21V248 and two wider campaigns. Recall 17V678 updates software for an instrument cluster that can go blank; its 7,036 vehicles include the XF, F-Pace and XJ. Recall 18V090 replaces leaking fuel rail end caps on 2.0-liter gas engines; its 10,073 vehicles cover five Jaguar models.
2019-2021: the camera wiring
The 2019 has 7 complaints, 4 of them back-over prevention. Recall 23V501 (3,134 vehicles) and recall 25V017 (5,329 vehicles, 2019-2020) both inspect and repair the camera harness in the trunk at no charge. The 2020 has 2 complaints. No complaints are on file for the 2021. The 2020 and 2021 have also been owned for fewer years, which leaves less time for filings.
