Jaguar complaints, model by model

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) keeps a public database of complaints that owners file. Our tally for each Jaguar model was taken on October 10, 2026. Each entry records what one owner told the agency. Nobody has confirmed it, and the totals rate nothing.

ModelYears in the EPA listNHTSA complaints

S-Type2000-2008483

XE2017-202137
F-Type2014-202436
E-Pace2018-202427

Read the table with the calendar in mind. Four sedans, the XJ, S-Type, XF and X-Type, account for 1,773 complaints between them, and three of the four were on sale well before 2010. The models named with "Pace" all arrived in 2017 or later, so their counts cover fewer years of driving.

The one that breaks the pattern is the I-Pace. It has only six model years in the EPA list, 2019 through 2024, yet it sits fifth with 241 complaints, ahead of the XK and its 18 years.

The XJS sits low at 77. Its last EPA year is 1996, the earliest end date of any Jaguar here.

The Jaguar lineup in two halves

Jaguar's EPA history splits cleanly. Through 2008 the list is sedans and grand tourers: the XJ, the XJS, the XK, the S-Type and the X-Type. From 2017 the lineup turns toward utility models, with the F-Pace, E-Pace and I-Pace joining the XE, XF and F-Type.

The XJ bridges both halves. It appears in every EPA year from 1984 to 2019, the longest run of any Jaguar. The F-Pace is the only Jaguar with a 2026 model year in the list so far; newer years are still filling in.

Selling a Jaguar that no longer runs

A Jaguar with a dead engine still counts as a whole car here. You don't pull parts, drain fluids or put it back together first.

  1. Note the model, year and rough mileage.
  2. Say whether your Jaguar turns over, rolls when pushed, and has any parts broken, burned or gone.
  3. Mention if your name is on the Jaguar's title. Lost it? Read selling a junk car with no title.
  4. Describe the spot, a garage, a street or a backyard, and how a flatbed gets in.

If the engine is the problem, our blown engine guide covers the choice between fixing and selling. Once the car is gone, handle the plates and paperwork.

Questions people ask

Do you buy a Jaguar that won't start?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, Jaguars included. You sell the whole car as it sits, and pickup is free anywhere in the US.
Which Jaguar has the most complaints filed with NHTSA?
The XJ, with 581 as of October 10, 2026. The S-Type is next at 483. These are complaints owners filed with the government, not a reliability rating, and the XJ's run in the EPA list spans 36 years.
Why do the newer Jaguars show so few complaints?
Partly time. An E-Pace from 2018 or a late F-Type has logged fewer seasons in owners' hands than an S-Type from 2000, so it has had less chance to gather reports. A low count on a newer model is not proof it holds up better.
Should I take parts off my Jaguar before you come?
No. The battery, the wheels and every other part stay where they are. Take out your personal things and anything with your data, and have the title ready if you have it.
