Selling a Land Rover Discovery Sport as it sits

NHTSA's complaint file holds 4 complaints on the 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport, and 2021 is the only model year our EPA data lists for it. With only four Discovery Sport complaints, no pattern shows, so we just report the records.

Maybe your Discovery Sport is wrecked, dead, or costs more to keep than it's worth. Either way, you can sell the whole car as it sits. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US.

The Discovery Sport in brief

Per Wikipedia, Jaguar Land Rover has built this compact luxury crossover since 2014. Gerry McGovern designed it, and its related model is the Range Rover Evoque. It replaced the Land Rover Freelander and, per Wikipedia, has been the best-selling model under the Land Rover marque since 2017.

Its first engines came from Ford. From late 2015 they were replaced by Jaguar Land Rover's own Ingenium engine family. Wikipedia lists a 9-speed ZF 9HP automatic among its transmissions and says ZF builds Discovery Sport transmissions at Gray Court, South Carolina. Assembly plants include Halewood in the United Kingdom.

What the 2021 record shows

The 4 complaints name the engine twice, the steering once and the power train once. None reports a crash, fire, injury or tow. Owner reports like these say nothing about reliability on their own, and a five-year-old SUV has had limited time to gather them.

Both recalls cover more than this one model:

  • 21V668: the automatic seat belt retractor. Dealers inspect the seat belt assemblies and replace them as needed. Owner letters went out October 20, 2021. The 32,687 vehicles in the campaign include Range Rovers, Range Rover Sports, Velars, Discoverys and Defenders.
  • 26V599: the DC/DC converter in the propulsion electrical system. Dealers update the vehicle software for free. The 23,677 count covers several Land Rover models.

If your Discovery Sport is from another year, enter its VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup to see what applies.

Fix it or sell it?

Run the VIN for open recalls first; both remedies above are free. Then compare the shop's written quote with what sellers ask for a sound Discovery Sport like yours. When the shop quote takes most of that figure, it's sensible to sell the Discovery Sport as is. Open recall and car doesn't run cover both sides.

Selling it whole

  1. Write out your Discovery Sport's VIN, mileage and fault, and if it rolls.
  2. Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Tell us where it is (street, driveway, shop lot) so the truck can reach it.
  4. Keep the Discovery Sport whole. The wheels and catalytic converter stay on, and tell us about any part already gone.
  5. Pickup: keep the Discovery Sport's title, keys and your photo ID handy. Each state handles plates its own way; check after you sell.

Questions people ask

Why does this page show so few complaints?
Our EPA data file lists only the 2021 model year for the Discovery Sport, and NHTSA's complaint file holds 4 complaints on it as of October 10, 2026. The 2021 Discovery Sport has been driven for just a few years so far. Own a Discovery Sport from a different year? Run its VIN on nhtsa.gov/recalls for the recalls that apply.
Which recalls cover the 2021 Discovery Sport?
Two. Recall 21V668 has dealers inspect the seat belt assemblies and replace them as needed. Recall 26V599 is a software update for the DC/DC converter in the propulsion electrical system. Both campaigns include several other Land Rover models, so their vehicle counts are not Discovery Sport-only.
Will you buy a Discovery Sport that doesn't run?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US. Tell us the Discovery Sport's address and what the key does: cranks, clicks or nothing.
