Selling a broken Range Rover Velar
The Velar's launch year makes up the biggest share of its complaints. Owners filed 43 NHTSA complaints on the 2018 Range Rover Velar, more than a third of the 115 filed across 2018-2026, by NHTSA's count on October 10, 2026. The 2018 also holds 7 of the 10 injury reports.

If your Velar has electrical faults that keep coming back, an engine that won't run right, or a quote you don't want to pay, you can sell the whole car as it sits. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US.
What the Velar is
Wikipedia classes the Velar as a compact luxury crossover. Jaguar Land Rover has built it since 2017 at its Solihull plant in the United Kingdom, to a design by Gerry McGovern. It lists the Jaguar XE, XF and F-Pace as related models. The petrol engines it names are a 2.0 L Ingenium turbo four, a 3.0 L P400 mild-hybrid turbo six and a 3.0 L AJ126 supercharged V6, all with an 8-speed ZF 8HP automatic. The plug-in hybrid carries a 17.1 kWh lithium-ion battery.
The EPA data runs from 2018 to 2026 under names such as P300, P340 MHEV, P380 and P400 MHEV. We hold no generation history for the Velar, so the model years below sit in groups set by the NHTSA complaint and recall records instead.
Complaints and recalls, early cars against later ones
2018-2020: electrical and engine complaints
Together these three Velar years account for 86 of the 115 complaints. For the 2018, electrical problems top the list (9 of 43) and the engine is right after (8). On the 2019 the engine leads (9 of 27), and on the 2020 the two are tied at 6 each out of 16. The 2019 also has 3 of the 5 fire reports.
Five recalls reach these years:
- 18V087: fuel rail end caps on the 2.0L gasoline engine in 2018 Evoques, Velars and Discovery Sports. Dealers replace the fuel rail. The 8,211 count spans all three models.
- 18V139: the ventilation air inlet door linkages on 2018 Velars could detach, leaving the system unable to clear fog or condensation. Dealers update the software that limits the actuator arm's travel. 7,090 vehicles, all Velars.
- 19V040: V6 and V8 engines in 2019 Range Rovers, Range Rover Sports, Velars and Discoverys get a new crankshaft pulley center retaining bolt. 2,587 vehicles across those models.
- 21V117: on 2018-2020 models, the Auto High Beam system did not show its status on the instrument panel as it should. A software update fixes it. The 26,805 count includes the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Discovery.
- 21V668: 2020-2021 Velars are among six models whose seat belt retractors dealers inspect and replace as needed. The 32,687 count covers all of them.
2021-2026: fewer complaints, more campaigns
From 2021 on the complaint count falls to 29 across five model years with complaints on file, and none for 2025. Being younger, they have fewer years of owner reports behind them. The recall list moves the other way: the 2022 and 2024 each have four campaigns.
The two largest touch the same part. Both recalls, 26V248 and 26V599, target the DC/DC converter in the Velar's propulsion electrical system on 2021-2024 models. A free software update fixes each one. Their counts, 170,169 and 23,677, include the Discovery, Evoque, Range Rover Sport and other models, so neither is a Velar-only number. Interim letters for 26V248 went out June 17, 2026.
Engine oil turns up in two recalls. 23V044 covers the engine cam carrier oil channel on certain 2023 Velars and other models, with the carrier and related parts replaced as needed (6,724 vehicles). 24V450 covers an oil filter housing that can crack and leak oil on 2024 models; dealers replace the housing, filter and O-rings (2,013 vehicles across five models).
The rest are smaller: front seat belt assemblies on 2022s (22V523, 4,927 vehicles over five models), 62 2022 Velars built without an audio amplifier module (22V581), a near field sensing module on 2024s (24V678, 180 vehicles over six models), and a seat belt warning chime on 2026s (26V297, 76 vehicles).
Complaints and recalls by model year
Every Velar number here comes from owner complaints at NHTSA, pulled October 10, 2026. Treat them as owner reports rather than a score; the 2024 and 2026 rows are small partly because those cars are new. A complaint may cite several components, and a recall appears under every year it reaches.
| Model year | Complaints | Injury reports | Most-named components | Recalls |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2018 | 43 | 7 | Electrical system (9), engine (8) | 3 |
| 2019 | 27 | 1 | Engine (9), electrical system (7) | 2 |
| 2020 | 16 | 1 | Engine (6), electrical system (6) | 2 |
| 2021 | 12 | 1 | Electrical system (3), unknown or other (3) | 3 |
| 2022 | 8 | 0 | Power train (3), electrical system (2) | 4 |
| 2023 | 6 | 0 | Electrical system (4) | 3 |
| 2024 | 2 | 0 | Unknown or other (1), not sure (1) | 4 |
| 2026 | 1 | 0 | Fuel/propulsion (1) | 1 |
Across the file: electrical system 31, engine 25, unknown or other 15, power train 8, exterior lighting 6. There are 6 crash reports, 5 fire reports, 8 tow reports and no deaths.
Repair it or sell it?
- Start with recalls. Run the VIN through NHTSA's lookup. On a 2021-2024, the DC/DC converter software update may still be open, and every remedy listed above is free at a dealer. Open recall covers selling with one outstanding.
- Electrical faults that keep returning? Read electrical problems before you pay for one module after another.
- Engine won't run? Get a written diagnosis. The blown engine guide shows how to weigh it.
- Quote higher than the Velar is worth running? That is the case in repairs cost more than it is worth.
Selling a Velar whole
- Have ready the VIN, the odometer figure, the warning messages or symptoms, and whether the Velar moves.
- Request an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Describe the spot. Say if it's in a driveway, a parking garage or a dealer's service lot, and if the wheels are locked.
- Keep the Velar intact, wheels and catalytic converter too. Mention any part that's already off.
- When we collect the Velar, have its title and a photo ID. Velar plates follow your state's rule, and after you sell lists them all. Still paying it off? See still owe on the loan.

Questions people ask
- Which Velar model year has the most NHTSA complaints?
- The 2018, the first year in the EPA data. Out of 115 Velar complaints at NHTSA through October 10, 2026, it has 43. The 2019 is next at 27, then the 2020 at 16. A 2023 or 2024 Velar simply hasn't been around long enough to build up a comparable count.
- What is the Velar DC/DC converter recall?
- For 2021-2024 Velars, 26V248 and 26V599 each target the DC/DC converter inside the propulsion electrical system. The remedy for both is a free software update at a dealer. The vehicle counts, 170,169 and 23,677, include several other Land Rover models.
- Will you buy a Velar that won't start?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US. Describe what happens at the start button, and say where the Velar is sitting.
