Selling a broken or non-running Lexus LX
A 2022-2024 Lexus LX with a failed engine may qualify for a replacement engine through a recall. Two campaigns, 24V381000 and 25V767000, cover LX models with the V35A twin-turbo V6, where debris from the manufacturing process may contaminate the engine. The 2023 LX shows it in the complaint file: 8 of its 13 complaints are filed under the engine and 3 more under engine and engine cooling.

Four generations of LX
The LX has been built at Toyota's Yoshiwara plant in Toyota City, Aichi, since November 1995, always alongside a Land Cruiser. Complaint totals come from NHTSA's owner file as pulled on October 10, 2026.
| Generation | Model years | Engine (Wikipedia) | Complaints | Recall campaigns |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| J80 (LX 450) | 1996-1997 | 4.5 inline six, 4-speed automatic | 14 | 0 |
| J100 (LX 470) | 1998-2007 | 4.7 V8, 4- or 5-speed automatic | 127 | 4 |
| J200 (LX 570) | 2008-2021 | 5.7 V8, 6-speed, then 8-speed automatic from 2015 | 34 | 5 |
| J310 (LX 600, LX 700h) | 2022-2026 | 3.4 twin-turbo V6, hybrid on the 700h; 10-speed automatic | 22 | 7 |
Recall 17V548000 covers both a 2006 LX 470 and 2008-2013 LX 570s, so it counts in two rows.
LX 470: where most complaints sit
The 1998-2007 cars hold 127 of the LX's 197 complaints. The 2000 has the most of any year, 24, split among stability control, speed control and service brakes at 4 each. The 2003 has 20, with steering on top, and the 2004 has 18.
That steering lines up with recall 10V346000: on 2003-2007 LX 470s, a snap ring on the steering shaft may disengage after an unusually severe impact. Dealers fitted a redesigned ring and an extra part to keep the shaft together. The other campaigns here: 04V434000 put a resistor in daytime running lights that were too bright under federal standard 108 (1998-2005), and 16V065000 reprogrammed the side air bag control module on 2003-2006 models, in a 320,409-vehicle campaign shared with the Land Cruiser, 4Runner, Tundra, Sequoia and GX 470.
LX 570: a quiet file, a few big campaigns
Fourteen model years of the LX 570 add up to just 34 complaints. Most of its five campaigns were shared with many Toyota models. Recall 11V113000 covered an accelerator pedal that can stick wide open on 2008-2011 LX 570s; its 1,363,244 vehicles include the 4Runner and RAV4. Recall 18V887000 covers 2008-2019 LX 570s whose seat belt tension sensor harness may break and switch off the front passenger air bag. The two fuel pump campaigns, 20V012000 and 20V682000, list the 2014-2015 and 2018-2019 LX; they covered 1,830,752 and 1,525,742 vehicles across many models.
LX 600: engines and transmissions
The current LX has the most recalls of any generation: seven campaigns in five model years. Besides the two engine campaigns, 24V125000 updated transmission software on 2022-2024 models after reports that the vehicle could move unexpectedly in Neutral. That campaign, 280,663 vehicles, also took in the Tundra and Sequoia Hybrid. Recall 26V094000 updated the transmission ECU on 2026 models for a solenoid failure that could break communication between control units. Recall 26V180000 inspects the front passenger seat frame on 2022-2024 models.
The LX 600 has only been sold since the 2022 model year, so its 22 complaints reflect a few years of driving, not decades.

Fix the LX, or sell it?
- Search the VIN on NHTSA's recall site before anything else. On a 2022-2024 with engine trouble, that check matters more than any quote.
- Older LX 470 or LX 570 with a big repair? A written estimate set against the going price of a running LX of that year tells you most of what you need. Our blown engine guide and old or high mileage page help with the math.
- Close call? Selling unrepaired skips the repair bill entirely. What a junk car is worth shows what moves the number.
Selling the whole LX
- Note the VIN, mileage and badge (LX 450, 470, 570, 600 or 700h).
- Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Tell us how it's parked. A full-size SUV that won't roll needs a truck with the right winch. Mention a narrow garage, a sloped driveway or a gravel pad. Pickup is free anywhere in the US.
- Nothing comes off. The LX goes with its wheels, converters and battery aboard. Mention anything already removed.
- The day we haul the LX, just have the title and your ID. See after you sell for plates and insurance by state.

Questions people ask
- My 2022-2024 LX 600 engine failed. Is there a recall?
- Check right away. Recall 24V381000 covers 2022-2023 LX 600 models with the V35A engine, where manufacturing debris may contaminate the engine; dealers replace the engine assembly free of charge. Recall 25V767000 covers 2022-2024 LX models: dealers inspect the number 1 main bearing and replace the engine if needed. To see if either of those two recalls is still open on your LX, enter its VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
- Which LX model year has the most NHTSA complaints?
- The 2000 LX 470 has 24 complaints at NHTSA as of the October 10, 2026 pull. The 2003 follows at 20, then the 1999 at 19. The 1998-2007 LX 470 years hold 127 of the model's 197 complaints.
- Will you buy an LX that won't start or move?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and pickup is free anywhere in the US. Say whether the LX rolls and how much room surrounds it, because a full-size SUV takes a bigger truck to load.
