Selling a broken Maserati Coupe
Half of the Maserati Coupe's four recalls deal with fuel escaping in the engine bay. On 2002-2004 cars the fuel lines could come loose, and on 2004 cars the hoses could go soft and slip off their metal fittings. The other two recalls deal with steering. NHTSA lists no recall at all for the 2005 or 2006.

Recalls and counts, year by year
Counted on October 10, 2026. NHTSA's complaint file holds no owner complaints on any Coupe year. Campaigns 03V529 and 04V140 each reach across 2002-2004, hence eight yearly entries for four campaigns.

What went wrong on the 2002-2004 cars
The Coupe arrived in 2002 to replace the 3200 GT. Wikipedia describes a new naturally aspirated, dry-sump 4.2-liter V8 with a transaxle gearbox: the Ferrari-Maserati F136 R, paired with a 6-speed manual or the Cambiocorsa automated manual. Giorgetto Giugiaro at Italdesign drew the body.
Every recall on this car lands in its first three years. Each vehicle count is for a full campaign, which may take in other Maserati models too.
- Power steering hose, 2002 (02V130). The delivery hose could sit against part of the exhaust manifold. Dealers checked its position and added a clamp. The campaign covered coupe and sedan cars, 352 in all.
- Fuel lines, 2002-2004 (03V529). The lines could disconnect and leak in the engine compartment. Dealers replaced the lines and their attachments. 1,982 vehicles.
- Fuel hoses, 2004 (04V027). The hoses could soften and come off their metal fittings. Dealers swapped the two black metal-and-rubber lines for grey nylon ones. 1,982 vehicles.
- Steering bolts, 2002-2004 (04V140). Two of the four bolts in the steering assembly may have gone in without locking compound and could work loose. Dealers replaced both. 2,024 vehicles.
The 2005-2006 cars
No recalls and no owner complaints are on file. Across the model's run, the EPA lists it under names including Coupe Cambiocorsa, Coupe GT, G-Sport and Gransport. Wikipedia says 13,423 cars were built in total before the GranTurismo took over.
Is it worth fixing?
Your VIN goes into NHTSA's recall lookup first; after that, ask a Maserati dealer whether the fuel line and steering work was ever done on your car.
If the trouble is the gearbox, get a written diagnosis that says whether it's the Cambiocorsa unit, the clutch or the 6-speed manual. Then look up asking prices for a working Coupe with the same year and gearbox. A quote that eats into the bulk of a Cambiocorsa or GT's market price tips the case toward selling. Our guides on a bad transmission, a worn-out clutch and repairs that cost more than the car walk through the math.
How to sell the Coupe whole
- Note which Coupe it is: GT, Cambiocorsa, GranSport or G-Sport, and manual or paddle-shift.
- Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Say whether it rolls. If it can't roll, tell us, so the truck brings what it needs.
- Keep it complete. Don't strip the body trim, the wheels or the seats; tell us what's already off.
- Have the title and an ID ready. After you sell covers plates and insurance by state.

Questions people ask
- Which Maserati Coupe years have recalls?
- 2002, 2003 and 2004. The 2002 and 2004 each fall under three campaigns and the 2003 under two. NHTSA lists none for the 2005 or 2006.
- Is a Coupe with a fuel smell covered by a recall?
- Maybe. Two campaigns, 03V529 and 04V027, replaced fuel lines and hoses that could leak in the engine compartment. Put the VIN into NHTSA's recall lookup and ask a Maserati dealer whether the work was done. Don't drive a car that smells of fuel.
- Will you buy a Coupe whose Cambiocorsa gearbox has stopped working?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and pickup is free anywhere in the US. Tell us whether the car will go into Neutral and roll.
