Selling a junk or broken Maserati GranTurismo

The GranTurismo has more recall campaigns than owner complaints on NHTSA's lists: 15 recall campaigns, 11 complaints from owners, and no single model year with more than two complaints.

Wikipedia gives the model years as 2008-2019 and 2023 on. A 2024 GranTurismo has been driven for only a sliver of the years a 2008 has, so its low count says little.

Two generations, two sets of recalls

First generation (M145), 2008-2019 model years

Built in Modena from 2007 to December 2019, 40,520 in all, per Wikipedia. It started with a 4.2-liter V8 developed with Ferrari and a 6-speed ZF automatic; the S, from 2008, brought a 4.7-liter V8 and a 6-speed Graziano automated manual. The black coupe in the photo is one of these cars.

The early years drew most of the recalls:

  • Suspension and steering, 2008-2009. Ball joint nuts torqued wrong (09V001), rear tie rods short on anti-corrosion material (13V196), and rear toe-in tie-rods (11V406). Each one also reached the Quattroporte, and two of them Alfa Romeos; read 7,912, 7,438 and 763 as campaign-wide figures.
  • Lights, 2008-2010. Tail and brake lamps that may stop working (12V024, 1,768 GranTurismos and Convertibles).
  • Electronics. Air bag control unit software on the 2008 (07V550), instrument cluster software on 2009 cars with front parking sensors (09V092), and the tire pressure monitor on the 2012 (12V489).
  • 2015-2018. A capacitor in the air bag control unit (19V461), plus a passenger door latch (15V744) and a main fuel line (15V849) on 2016 cars.

Second generation (M189), 2023 on

The 2024 carries five recall campaigns, more than any other year. The one to know about: 24V679, body control module software that can show the wrong fuel level, which can lead to an unexpected engine stall (524 GranTurismos and GranCabrios). The others are a rearview camera update shared with the Grecale (24V892), a radio update across many Maserati models (25V098, 27,354 vehicles), a tire label that can come loose (25V244), and missing headlight adjustment caps on 2024-2025 cars (25V722). EPA's list for the new car includes electric Folgore versions.

Selling the GranTurismo whole

  1. Note the VIN, mileage and version, coupe or Convertible, S, Sport, MC or newer Modena, Trofeo or Folgore.
  2. Ask for an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Describe how low it sits and where. A GranTurismo nosed into a narrow garage takes a different loading approach than one at the curb.
  4. Sell it with everything still bolted on. If the wheels or exhaust were sold off, say so.
  5. When we collect the GranTurismo, sign the title to us and let the driver see your ID. Plates are covered in after you sell.

Fix or sell?

Before paying for any work, enter the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup; dealers do the recall work. With so few complaints, the data can't predict what a first-generation car will need next, so get your own problem diagnosed and quoted in writing. Set the quote against what a running car of the same year sells for. Old or high mileage and what a junk car is worth help with the comparison.

Questions people ask

How many complaints have GranTurismo owners filed with NHTSA?
Eleven in total on October 10, 2026, spread so thinly that no single year has more than two. Three name the electrical system. Second-generation cars have only been sold since 2023, so their record is short.
Is the GranTurismo Convertible covered on this page?
Yes. Wikipedia notes the GranCabrio is sold as the GranTurismo Convertible in the US, and several recalls here, such as 12V024 for tail lamps, name both.
Will you take a GranTurismo that doesn't run?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US.
