Selling a junk or non-running Maserati Quattroporte
NHTSA lists 26 recall campaigns for the Quattroporte against 53 complaints from owners, about one campaign for every two complaints. All 53 complaints sit on model years 2005 to 2023, even though EPA's data carries the car back to 1984.

Complaints and recalls by model year
Figures are NHTSA's as of October 10, 2026. Where a year has no complaints, its recall count is left blank. A recall spanning several years is counted in each one, and owners of the latest Quattroportes have had only a short stretch to send in reports.

Complaints and recalls, generation by generation
Fifth generation (2005-2012 model years in the file)
Wikipedia dates this car from July 2003 to 2012, styled by Ken Okuyama at Pininfarina. It used a 4.2- or 4.7-liter Ferrari F136 V8 with either a 6-speed Graziano DuoSelect automated manual or a 6-speed ZF automatic. The facelift went into production in June 2008.
Suspension comes up most here. Owners of the 2009 named it in 4 of 6 complaints and ties for the lead on the 2008. Quattroporte suspension parts drew three recalls: 13V196 for rear tie rods lacking enough anti-corrosion material (2005-2008), 09V001 for ball joint nuts with the wrong torque (2006-2008), and 11V406 for rear toe-in tie-rods (2009). All three also covered the GranTurismo, and two of them Alfa Romeo models, so the vehicle counts are campaign totals. The 2007 also had 07V319, a software issue in the antilock brake control unit on cars with the automatic.
Sixth generation (2014-2024)
Built at Grugliasco from 2013 to 2022, then at Mirafiori in Turin until 2023. Recall notices describe V6 engines, a 3.8-liter V8 in the GTS and an eight-speed automatic.
No Quattroporte year draws more than the 2014: 11 complaints, 3 of them crashes, and 8 recall campaigns. Two campaigns hit the GTS V8 alone: 15V686, a missing protective cap on the starter cable (2014), and 17V610, a fuel pump resistor that can cut engine power (2015-2017). Most of the rest were shared with the Ghibli: fuel lines, the floor mat, rear tie-rod bolts, seat wiring. Two of the 2021's three complaints name the seat belts, the same year 21V703 replaced rear seat belt retractors.
Before 2005
Wikipedia lists a third generation (1979-1990, 4.2 or 4.9 V8) and a fourth (1994 to May 2001, twin-turbo V6 or V8 on Biturbo underpinnings). NHTSA holds no complaints on any Quattroporte model year before 2005.
Selling a Quattroporte whole
- Gather the VIN, mileage and version (S, GTS, SQ4, Sport GT and so on), plus what's wrong.
- Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Explain how it's sitting. A Quattroporte with a broken suspension arm may drag a wheel, which changes how it gets loaded.
- Don't strip it first. The offer assumes an intact Quattroporte, so flag any part someone already took.
- Pickup day: the signed-over title and your ID. Plates differ by state; after you sell lists them.
Repair or sell?
Check the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup before anything else; dealers do the recall work. When a fifth-generation Quattroporte needs worn suspension parts that no recall covers, get a written estimate and weigh it against a healthy Quattroporte from that year. Our broken suspension guide covers when the car is unsafe to drive, and repairs cost more than it is worth covers the math.
Questions people ask
- Which Quattroporte model year has the most NHTSA complaints?
- The 2014: 11 complaints when counted on October 10, 2026, three reporting a crash. Every other Quattroporte year stays at six or under, though the newest ones are still young.
- Were the suspension recalls only for the Quattroporte?
- No. Both 09V001 (ball joint nuts) and 13V196 (rear tie rods) reached the 2008 GranTurismo and Alfa Romeo cars as well. Their 7,912 and 7,438 figures count every vehicle in each campaign.
- Do you buy older Quattroportes that have sat for years?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US. You sell the whole car as it sits.
