Selling a Nissan Ariya that won't drive

An Ariya that won't move can be sold like any other car. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, electric ones included, and you sell the whole car as it sits. Pickup is free anywhere in the US.

The Ariya is Nissan's first all-electric crossover. Nissan's Tochigi plant in Japan began building it in January 2022, and US deliveries started late that year as 2023 models. Every recall so far is on a 2023, and three of the four are about losing drive power.

Which Ariya you have

Nissan's 2023 press kit lists five grades: Engage, Venture+, Evolve+, Empower+ and Premiere. Front-wheel-drive and twin-motor e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive versions were each offered with 63 or 87 kWh of usable battery; Nissan's 2025 kit quotes the same packs by total size, 66 and 91 kWh. Nissan's 2023 kit gives the Venture+ an EPA-estimated range of up to 304 miles. That kit lists a CCS port for DC fast charging at up to 130 kW as standard.

The four recalls

23V657September 2023Inverter software sees a short circuit and shuts the EV system down9,813
24V391June 2024Front motor O-rings damaged in assembly leak oil inside the motor84
24V560July 2024Inverter software misreads an error and shuts the EV system down1,188

NHTSA files 23V131 under a second model name, "redundant ARIYA," so it is easy to miss in a model search. A Nissan bulletin dated February 15, 2024, campaign P3A32, replaces the steering wheel on certain 2023 cars at no charge. Two more campaigns from November 2024 reprogram the infotainment unit and check the CAN gateway on some 2023-2024 cars. Those are campaigns, not recalls.

What owners report

NHTSA holds 54 complaints on the Ariya, plus 4 more on 2023 cars filed under the second name. Electrical system is the component named most. Searching the text of those 54 complaints, 20 mention charging, 15 mention a tow, 11 describe a loss of power or a shutdown, and 5 mention the 12-volt battery.

Repair or sell?

If the car shut down on the road, check the recalls first at nhtsa.gov/recalls, and ask a Nissan dealer whether an open one explains it. If the car was in a crash or the repair isn't covered, get the quote in writing and weigh it against the car's value when fixed. Our wrecked car guide helps after an accident.

Selling an Ariya whole

  1. Write down the VIN and the mileage, and note the battery size (63 or 87 kWh usable on the first cars) and whether it's front- or all-wheel drive.
  2. Ask for an offer online or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Tell us its state: does it power on, will it go into Neutral, and where is it parked.
  4. Leave it as it is, with the charging cable that came with it if you still have it.
  5. At pickup, bring the title and a photo ID. After you sell covers plates and insurance.

Questions people ask

Do you buy electric cars like the Ariya?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and that includes electric ones. When you ask for an offer, say if the screens light up and if it can be pushed.
My 2023 Ariya lost drive power. Is there a recall?
There are three. Recalls 23V657 and 24V560 update inverter software that could shut the EV system down, and 24V391 covers front motor O-rings that could leak oil inside the motor on 84 cars. NHTSA's VIN search shows which of them your car still has open.
Are there recalls on 2024 and 2025 Ariyas?
None in NHTSA's files as we pulled them on October 10, 2026. Nissan did run software campaigns on some 2024 cars, for the infotainment unit and the CAN gateway. New recalls can be added any time, so check the VIN.
