An Eos that won't move, glows with an air bag light, or wants a repair bigger than its value can go as is. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US.
Where it was built
Wikipedia says the Eos was assembled at the AutoEuropa plant in Palmela, Portugal, and succeeded the Golf Cabriolet. It shares its roots with the Golf Mk5. Global production ran 39,437 in 2006, 55,560 in 2007 and 43,578 in 2008. Volkswagen announced the end in 2014 with a Final Edition trim, production stopped in May 2015, and a few base models were sold in the US as 2016s.
Two stretches, two different complaints
2008-2009: power train first
The power train leads the 2008 (22 complaints) and the 2009 (34), and is second on the 2010 (18). These complaints don't say which gearbox the car had. The one transmission recall concerns the DSG dual-clutch gearbox: 09V333 covers 2009 cars whose DSG temperature sensor wiring may have a connector problem, and dealers reprogram the transmission control module. Its 16,000 vehicles are described as 2009 and 2010 passenger cars, so the count is not the Eos's alone.
The 2009 also has 20 complaints naming service brakes, and one stability control recall. Recall 16V913 updates ABS control module software on 2009 cars; its 135,683 vehicles include the Jetta, GTI, Rabbit and Audi A3.
2012-2016: the air bag years
From the 2012 on, air bags lead every year except the 2016. The 2012's 94 complaints include 64 on air bags; the 2014's 40 include 30. The recalls match, and all four are shared with other Volkswagen and Audi models:
- 15V483 (2010-2013 Eos): dealers add a cover to protect the clock spring behind the steering wheel.
- 16V078 (2012-2014 Eos): new driver's front air bag inflators.
- 18V148 (2010-2014 Eos): a later swap to an alternative inflator.
- 19V014 (2015-2016 Eos): driver's inflator again.
Their vehicle counts, 119,394 to 659,493, are whole-campaign totals that include the CC, Passat, Golf and others.
Complaints and recalls by model year
Each row shows how many Eos complaints reached NHTSA for that model year as of October 10, 2026. An Eos recall covering several years is listed under each year it covers.
| Year | Complaints | Crashes | Fires | Recalls | Leading component |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2007 | 40 | 4 | 0 | 0 | Air bags (13) |
| 2008 | 47 | 2 | 1 | 0 | Power train (22) |
| 2009 | 84 | 4 | 0 | 2 | Power train (34) |
| 2010 | 69 | 0 | 0 | 2 | Air bags (24) |
| 2011 | 18 | 2 | 0 | 2 | Air bags (10) |
| 2012 | 94 | 1 | 2 | 4 | Air bags (64) |
| 2013 | 26 | 0 | 1 | 4 | Air bags (18) |
| 2014 | 40 | 0 | 0 | 3 | Air bags (30) |
| 2015 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 2 | Air bags (2) |
| 2016 | 4 | 0 | 1 | 2 | Power train, electrical, engine (1 each) |
Totals: 13 complaints report a crash, 5 a fire, 8 an injury, and none a death. The latest model years have been on the road a shorter time, so they show fewer reports so far.
Fix it or sell it?
An Eos is now at least ten years old, so a large repair can pass what the car is worth. Line up a written estimate against the price a running Eos of your year brings.
- Air bag light on? Check the VIN at NHTSA's lookup for an open inflator or clock spring recall. An open recall does not stop a sale; see open recall.
- Gearbox slipping or refusing to shift? The dual-clutch guide covers DSG trouble and when to walk away.
- High miles and a long repair list: see old or high mileage.
