Selling a non-running or junk Genesis GV80

All 10 exterior lighting complaints owners have filed on the GV80 are on one model year, the 2021. The first year has the most complaints too, 61 of 191 at NHTSA as of October 10, 2026. Four of the GV80's nine recalls involve fuel tubes, fuel pumps or fuel pipes.

The GV80 in brief

Wikipedia lists the GV80 as a mid-size luxury crossover built since 2020 at Ulsan Plant 2 on the M3 platform, the same one under the second-generation G80. Under the hood sits a 2.5-liter turbo four, a 3.5-liter turbo V6, or that V6 with an electric supercharger added. Every one drives through an 8-speed automatic, to the rear wheels or all four. The EPA lists US model years 2021 through 2027 in AWD, RWD and mild-hybrid (MHEV) versions, and no diesel.

Wikipedia also reports that in June 2020 Hyundai suspended deliveries of the diesel GV80 because of engine vibration from carbon buildup.

Known trouble spots

2021-2023: lighting, fuel and seat belts

The 2021 draws 61 complaints: electrical 12, fuel and propulsion 10, exterior lighting 10. The 2022 has 45, led by engine (9) and fuel and propulsion (8). The 2023 has 41, with electrical (7) and power train (5) on top.

These years carry most of the recalls:

  • 21V208 (2021, 2.5 turbo): the tube from the high pressure fuel pump to the fuel rail may not seal. A small campaign, 147 vehicles shared with the G80.
  • 23V630 (2021-2022) and 24V282 (2022-2023): the fuel pump may fail, which can cut drive power. Their counts, 19,272 and 31,440, include other Genesis models.
  • 26V229 (2021-2025): the joint between fuel pipe and fuel rail may leak fuel. 94,760 vehicles across the GV70, G90, G80 and GV80.
  • 21V796 (2021) and 23V094 (2021-2023): seat belt pretensioners. 23V094's 65,517 vehicles span four Genesis models; 21V796's 978 also include Hyundai Elantras and Venues.

2024-2027: screens and a camera

Complaints fall to 17 on the 2024, 19 on the 2025 and 8 on the 2026. The 2025 GV80 has been out the shortest time, yet its 4 injury complaints are the most of any GV80 year.

The later recalls are software: the instrument panel display may fail (25V105 for 2023-2024, 26V019 for 2025-2026, where owners are told to turn off HD radio until the fix), and on the 2025 the rearview camera display may shut off while reversing (24V584, 1,488 vehicles, shared with the GV60).

Fix, or sell it broken?

Which GV80 recalls cover the fuel system?
Four: 21V208 (a high pressure fuel tube on 2021 2.5 turbo models), 23V630 (fuel pump, 2021-2022), 24V282 (fuel pump, 2022-2023) and 26V229 (a fuel pipe joint that may leak, 2021-2025). In both pump recalls, the risk named is a pump that quits and leaves the SUV without drive power.
Was the diesel GV80 sold in the US?
