Selling a Jaguar I-Pace with a battery problem

Eight of the Jaguar I-Pace's 13 recall campaigns deal with its high-voltage traction battery. Several ask owners to keep the I-Pace parked and charging in the open, clear of any structure, until the fix is in, and some also cap charging at 80% or 90%.

The 2019 I-Pace is named in seven of the eight. Some campaigns follow up on I-Paces already repaired under an earlier one, so one car can appear more than once. Only the VIN settles which apply to yours.

The other five recalls

  • 19V351000, 2019-2020: if the regenerative braking fails, the I-Pace takes longer to respond after the pedal goes down. Dealers update software (3,083 vehicles).
  • 20V082000: a single 2020 I-Pace whose front passenger seat frame may lack fasteners.
  • 23V030000, 2021-2022: the I-Pace is too quiet for pedestrians when stopped or backing up. Dealers update the audio amplifier software (1,072 vehicles).
  • 23V518000, 2021-2022: the high-voltage coolant heater may not clear a fogged or frosted windshield. Dealers fit a new heater (668 vehicles).
  • 24V134000, 2021-2024: when one turn signal stops working, the flash rate doesn't speed up to warn the driver. Dealers update the configuration file software (2,015 vehicles).

Complaints by model year

Every I-Pace number here is an owner report NHTSA held when we counted on October 10, 2026. A count isn't proof of a defect and doesn't score the I-Pace. The 2021-2024 cars have had only a few years on the road, which gives their owners less time to file.

The electrical system is named in 174 of the I-Pace's 241 complaints, more than seven in ten. Service brakes come next with 19, then 14 on the fuel and propulsion system. The 2019 and 2020 hold 210 of the 241, and across all years the complaints report 3 crashes, 5 fires and 8 tows.

What the I-Pace is

Wikipedia says Magna Steyr assembled the I-Pace for Jaguar Land Rover at its Graz plant in Austria from 2018 until 2024, and Ian Callum designed it. It has two motors driving all four wheels through a single-speed reduction gear, fed by a 90 kWh lithium-ion pack. The EPA files it as a small SUV, sold as the EV400 on 20- or 22-inch tires. Wikipedia says the I-Pace was discontinued in 2024 due to slowing sales and a change in corporate vision.

Fix, wait, or sell?

  2. Follow the parking and charging limits in any open battery recall until the work is done.

Selling a dead I-Pace

  1. Note the I-Pace's details: VIN, odometer, whether the screens light up, and the state of charge if the display still shows one.
  2. Request an offer online or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Say where the I-Pace sits and if a park-outside recall applies, so we know it's out in the open. An I-Pace that won't power on can't drive itself up a ramp, so mention that too. Pickup is free anywhere in the US.
  4. Leave the I-Pace complete, with the battery, the charging cable and the wheels. Name anything already taken off.
  5. When we collect your I-Pace, pass the driver the signed title and both key fobs, and keep your ID nearby. Whether the plates stay with the I-Pace depends on the state; after you sell has the details.

Which I-Pace years are under a battery recall?
Every model year from 2019 to 2024 appears in at least one. The widest, 23V369000, spans 2019-2024. Later campaigns single out 2019 I-Paces, 2019-2020 I-Paces and 2020-2021 I-Paces. Some cars sit in more than one, so run the I-Pace's VIN through NHTSA's recall search.
Which I-Pace year has the most NHTSA complaints?
The 2019 I-Pace, which NHTSA's records showed at 149 on October 10, 2026, with 108 tied to the electrical system. The 2020 has 61. A 2023 or 2024 I-Pace is still new, so its owners haven't had many years to send in reports.
