Selling a damaged or non-running Maserati MC20

NHTSA lists six recall campaigns for the Maserati MC20 and not one owner complaint, counted on October 10, 2026. Two of those recalls are about the open-top Cielo's windshield frame, and on 11 cars the bonding may not hold the frame on in a crash.

Coupe and Cielo: what the recalls cover

Maserati builds the MC20 in Modena. Wikipedia lists a 3.0-liter Nettuno twin-turbo V6 in a rear mid-engine, rear-drive layout, paired with an 8-speed Tremec TR-9080 dual-clutch gearbox. The EPA names four versions: MC20, MC20 Spyder, MCPURA and MCPURA Spyder. The vehicle counts below are for each whole campaign; where a campaign covers other models, it says so.

The coupe, 2022-2026

  • Fuel line sensor housing, 2022 (21V872). The housing could crack and leak fuel. Dealers replace it for free. The 409-vehicle campaign also covers the 2021 Quattroporte and Ghibli and the 2021-2022 Levante.
  • Brake lights, 2022 (22V265). Faulty tail lights could make the brake lights flicker. Dealers inspect and replace them. 56 vehicles, all MC20s.
  • Tire label, 2022-2024 (24V537). The capacity weight printed on the tire label may be wrong. Dealers put on a corrected label. 1,092 vehicles, coupes and Cielos.
  • Radio software, 2022-2025 (25V098). Filed under NHTSA's back-over prevention component. Maserati updates the software free, either remotely or in the service bay. The 27,354 vehicles span seven Maserati models.

The Cielo, from 2022

Maserati showed the Cielo in May 2022: the same V6 with a folding two-piece hard top and an electrochromic glass roof. Both Cielo-only recalls fall on the 2023 model year and both involve the windshield frame. Under 23V242, dealers reinstall the frame and replace the windshield. Under 23V570, they check the mounting stud and add the sealant that may be missing, a campaign of 59 cars.

Repair or sell?

All six recall fixes are free, so run the VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup before anything else. After that, the decision usually comes down to a crash, a flood or a failed part like the gearbox or a turbo. Get the dealer or body shop estimate in writing and compare it with the car's value once repaired; if your insurer has already totaled it, see keeping the check and selling unrepaired.   2. Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Tell us how it sits. A low mid-engine car with crash damage may not roll or steer; say so, and let us know if it's in a collision center, an impound lot or your garage.
  4. Leave it as it is. Don't take off the wheels, the roof panel or the trim. Mention anything already removed.

Which MC20 recalls cover the Cielo?
Two are Cielo-only, both on 2023 cars and both about the windshield frame: 23V242 (frame bonding, 11 vehicles) and 23V570 (missing stud sealant, 59 vehicles). The tire-label recall 24V537 and the radio software recall 25V098 also list Cielos.
Does the MC20 have owner complaints on file with NHTSA?
Not one turned up in our October 10, 2026 count of NHTSA's complaint file. The oldest MC20 is a 2022, so owners have had only a few years to report problems.
